Case Study: Trade Show Packaging for Electronic Engineering Brand

When your product is innovative, high-value, and designed to be seen up close, how you transport and present it really matters.

JDRF, a leading electronic engineering company, needed a way to safely transport its advanced smart lighting demo kits to trade shows by plane, while also creating a polished, practical setup for on-site demonstrations.

The packaging had to protect sensitive components in transit, keep everything organised, and double as a professional sales and demo case once on the show floor.

This is where we came in.

Client Challenge

JDRF regularly travels to trade shows with demo kits that need to arrive in perfect condition. 

As we all know, air travel brings its own challenges, including shock, vibration, pressure changes, and frequent handling.

Alongside protection in transit, the JDRF team also wanted a solution that made set-up easy at tradeshow events and helped showcase their products clearly and professionally. 

This meant packaging that could do more than just protect. We needed to create a solution that offered protection, efficiency, organisation - and great presentation.

SmartShield Solution

We designed a custom packaging solution built around a NANUK 938 plastic case, paired with a fully customised internal layout.

The case was screen-printed with the JDRF logo on both the exterior lid and inside, giving it a strong branded presence from the moment it’s opened.

Inside, we created a multi-layered foam insert system designed specifically for trade show use.

A foam tray with a Velcro lifting handle allows for quick and efficient loading and unloading. Removing this layer reveals a screen-printed ABS plastic panel that helps showcase products during demonstrations.

Beneath that, additional storage space keeps components organised and secure.

Deeper into the case, removable foam cut-outs provide dedicated pockets for parts and accessories. Each pocket is clearly labelled and printed with a QR code that links directly to the corresponding product page on JDRF’s website, making it easy for visitors to learn more in real time.

As our colleague Ashley put it, “This was no ordinary case. Every layer had a purpose, from protection and organisation to presentation on the trade show floor.”

Results

The finished case gave JDRF a robust, professional solution that works just as well in transit as it does on display.

Their demo kits are now protected against shock and vibration during air travel, while the organised layout makes trade show set-up quicker and more efficient. 

Clear labelling and QR codes enhance the customer experience, helping their sales team to tell their product story easily and effectively.

Most importantly, JDRF now has peace of mind knowing their equipment will arrive safely and be ready to use, wherever they’re exhibiting next.


The Case Behind the Solution

This project used the NANUK 938 protective case, one of SmartShield’s trusted partner products.
