At SmartShield, we’ve packed a lot of things, but there’s something especially exciting about working with autonomous robots.
We’re fascinated to see how robotics and automation are reshaping industries, from logistics and healthcare to commercial cleaning.
And here’s the thing: as these machines get smarter, the robotics packaging around them needs to do the same. It’s not just about protecting sensitive tech anymore, but also simplifying handling and creating a strong first impression.
We recently had the chance to work with Avidbots, a Canadian robotics company, that’s changing the way floor cleaning gets done with their fully autonomous robots. They came to us looking for a custom packaging solution that would keep their newest models—Kas and Neo—safe in transit, easy to handle, and ready to impress right out of the crate.
Here’s how we approached each project.
1. Packaging the Kas: A Smart Fit for a Compact Machine

The Kas is a compact, fully autonomous floor scrubber designed for cleaning in tight, high-traffic areas. It’s smart, nimble, and packed with tech, so getting the industrial packaging solution spot-on was important.
For Kas, our goal was to create a custom packaging system that was sturdy, secure, and easy to work with.
- We started by building a custom pallet with a solid top and edge supports on two sides. That gave the outer carton structure and kept everything stable during transit.
- On one side of the pallet, we added tie-down rings; on the other, a custom metal bracket—both designed so the robot could be strapped down directly to the deck.
- The accessories sit in a custom foam insert, packed neatly on top of the unit and protected inside the box.
- We also built in a wooden ramp that stores inside the crate itself—so when the packaging is opened, everything needed for unloading is right there.
The end result: secure, efficient protective packaging for robotics that travels well and makes setup easier at the destination with no loose parts or unpacking-confusion.
2. Packaging the Neo: A Hands-On Solution for a High-Tech Robot

Neo, Avidbots’ flagship product, is a fully autonomous cleaning system powered by real-time AI. It adapts to changing environments, maps new spaces, and delivers precision cleaning with minimal human input.
With all that tech packed inside, it needed custom robotics packaging that could protect it, showcase it, and simplify setup on arrival.
Like with the Kas, we started with a custom pallet, this time designed to support two scored, custom-printed corrugated pads that wrap neatly around the unit, offering structure and branding.
- A corrugated tray-style lid closes the system, with accessories organized in a custom foam set that sits on top of the robot, secured inside the lid.
- Tie-down rings on one side of the pallet allow the robot to be safely strapped down for shipping.
- A wooden ramp, stored within the packaging system, ensures easy and safe unloading for the end-user.
Every element was designed with the people handling these units in mind, so it was durable where it needed to be, lightweight where it could be, and efficient every step of the way.
Designing Packaging That Understands the Product
Both of these projects reflect what we do best at SmartShield: working closely with innovative clients like Avidbots to design custom packaging for robotics that understands the product. It’s not just about protecting the machines: we think about how they’re unboxed, set up, moved, and used, so the experience is smooth from start to finish.
The robotics space is moving fast, and we’re proud to support companies building the future of autonomy with packaging that protects high-value equipment and simplifies delivery and deployment.
